In an isolated area just off the desert in Dubai, something of a Roald Dahl-ish fancy takes place. Kids (and adults!) come to this factory of sweets looking for Oompa Loompas only to find something more interesting – themselves!
Themselves in a video game! In this designed experience, the agency involved designed multiple interactive spaces (both digital and otherwise) for visitors to learn more about healthy (chocolatey) eating and the importance of being active.
Along with the many interesting things in the Summit, the Abu Dhabi Municipality featured an Orbit 360 Hologram at their stand. It was used as the primary medium to describe the new building codes being implemented in the Emirate. Check out the video below:

Let’s all hope we get cars like these in the future.
3M recently opened their Innovation Center in Dubai with a virtual mannequin greeting visitors at the lobby. Check out the video below:
Hardware integration comes with the territory. In some cases, this is enough to create a truly immersive experience. As was the case for our 3M installation where the Virtual Mannequin was crafted using purely hardware logic. In this particular case, the client requirements were quite simple: they wanted a projection mapped mannequin that begins to talk once a person passes through. Simple, right?
No, after finalization, the client wanted more A.I. like presence verification, multiple video feeds and queuing. Now since the initial brief was simple detection – the solution was a hardware-based motion detection schema. With the new requirements, some would say that the best way to go to implement a software-based logic.
Here comes the challenge: budget was locked into the initial quote and we have to implement these additional requirements nevertheless (with the timeframe shorter). Adding logic programming would’ve been the easier way out but that would entail that we change the entire hardware already installed. As such, our chief engineer decided to customize the hardware using only a soldering iron, a few additional components and dedication.
The solution worked out for all parties. The mannequin functioned as it should (albeit additional requirements), the Innovation Center opened with the Mannequin sensing and welcoming guests seamlessly, client/s are happy and we: tired but satisfied.

Last week, PixelPlusMedia was invited to participate in IMT Dubai’s “Media meets MBA Forum 2010”. Official Press Release as follows:
“Media in the Middle East Reflects the Momentum of Society”
‘Media is not just a marketing tool, it is a momentum of society’ declared Professor Mohan Agarwal of the Institute of Management Technology, Dubai. He was opening the second ‘Media Meets MBAs’ on Wednesday, December 22, 2010. Addressing the packed audience of marketing MBAs, faculty and corporate invitees of business schools, Dr.Agrawal highlighted three major changes in the mediaspace of the Middle East. They included Media Consolidation replacing media cannibalism; Pull media replacing traditional push media and finally, Technology replacing guess work in media business’.
The meet was addressed by a galaxy of scintillating speakers and media personalities led by Reg Athwal– Co-founder of One TVO Abu Dhabi UAE. He mesmerized the audience with his engaging message on how to ‘Unleash Media DNA’ and asked for self assessment of inner strengths and role fit within us and then leverage it to play media to the perfection.
The next speaker Mr.Abbas Alidina- renowned columnist and frequent contributor to the diffusion of social network media in the Middle East revealed that face book is increasingly penetrating eh Middle East and in many gulf countries, have reached as high as 35% of the population. Through his examples and statistics he showed how valuable is the social media for the region. He cited several case studies of successful users of social network media in large and small sectors.
Integrating the emerging technology with media, Mr. Jose Garcellano of PixelPlus Media introduced the new concepts of ‘Immersive media and augmented reality to attract, engage and sell’ to the market especially to the attention-deficit consumers. Through the innovative use of holograms and information technology, he mapped how media and marketing maximizes the impact at a relatively low cost.
The meet was closed with the address of Mr.J.Swaminath, Director Media Buying of Carat, UAE. He profiled the ‘rapidly crowding of media in the region with 150 newspapers, 300 magazines, 75 radio stations; 600 free to air channels and millions of websites and hand-held screen based media windows for a demographically small but buy-rich market’ and declared that media buying has become a science needing both statistics and strategic mind to buy media smart in the crowed media market.
The Meet was the second in the annual summit organized by IMT Dubai which is actively engaged in media and marketing research for the region under the guidance of Dr. Mohan Agrawal, professor marketing and convener of the Media Meet.
