Hologram and Surface at ADIPEC

Pixel+Media, in partnership with Xische, recently made heads turn at the Technical Metal stand at ADNEC for ADIPEC 2010.  Following the theory of immersion, an Orbit 270 hologram and a Pixel+Surface were installed to attract and engage exhibition goers.

Along with the nut-shaped TM stand, the technologies installed were something that were more than the usual in this event.

All in all, there were several show stoppers at ADIPEC.  From Gazprom’s ice skating on MDF planks to ADNOC’s really cool 100% recyclable stand (I dare not mention the simple yet elegantly designed projection books and the touch sensitive walls).

Gesture-based Interaction

Surface is an example of gesture-recognition computing.

According to Wiki (our unparalleled source of information):

Gesture recognition is a topic in computer science and language technology with the goal of interpreting human gestures via mathematical algorithms. Gestures can originate from any bodily motion or state but commonly originate from the face or hand. Current focuses in the field include emotion recognition from the face and hand gesture recognition. Many approaches have been made using cameras and computer vision algorithms to interpret sign language. However, the identification and recognition of posture, gait, proxemics, and human behaviors is also the subject of gesture recognition techniques.[1]

Gesture recognition can be seen as a way for computers to begin to understand human body language, thus building a richer bridge between machines and humans than primitive text user interfaces or even GUIs (graphical user interfaces), which still limit the majority of input to keyboard and mouse.

It can be applied to marketing and advertising solutions but recent advancements have been made for industrial and government purposes.  A recent TED event showcases these advancements and it is AWESOME!

Immersive Media For Home and Industrial Interiors

Some examples of how immersive media is applied in everyday life and things (hobbies rather).

The indoor golf is a concept that has been fine-tuned over the years and is now a more sophisticated gaming application of immersive media – a perfect example of mixing the virtual with the real.  It features double tracking technology that not only detects the direction of the ball, but also the spin that you put on it and the velocity of the ball.  It’s perfect for personal, commercial and promotional applications.

On the other hand, the interactive mirror is a step further into a more purposeful use of ubiquitous media. Developing technology that melts with the environment is key in properly integrating immersive media into everyday lives.  There are quite a number of possibilities with this kind of application: gaming, retail, multitouch, POI, POS, etc.

A combination of space design, experience design, interactive games, holograms and augmented reality.  This Live Activation Stand Concept was made to highlight the product’s features and it’s fundamental purpose: being the lightest football boot around.  Visitors can play games, customize the shoes and see it in a different way through a hologram.
